Happy New Year to you – is to too late to say that?
I have just installed a new smoke detector in my house. It was in our loft where the old one was looking very tired; it used to be white and had turned yellow. When I tested it, it almost fell apart and refused to work. I check the other ones in our house but for some reason, I’d forgotten about this one.
For the peace of mind, it gives me it was definitely worth the hassle let alone the £12.
It must be twenty years since I have bought a smoke alarm and interestingly the batteries now last for ten years. There’s even a little label on the side of the detector to write the year you installed it. I proudly wrote 2021 which got me thinking…
…what will the person (maybe me) who changes the batteries a decade from now think when they see ‘2021’ written on the side? I guess whatever happens over the next ten years if history is any guide at all, especially after the forgettable year we just finished those decade-from-now thoughts will be mostly a faded memory.
What will matter more is what we decide to do with the next 3,650 days.
One constant theme from us at TWP is that when we are privileged enough to get to build a financial plan with you there are a few remarkable themes. Our planning process, which takes into account your life objectives and attempts to make sense of your finances at every level allows us in agreement with you to set a plan of action in place that can be reviewed every year (at least) to check everything is on track. Almost always the best thing to do is to set a plan in place, ignore the noise in the press and in the golf club car park and leave investments in place for the long-term. Financial Plans should be re-named as personal financial plans; they’re for your circumstances and for your objectives; everyone if different and rightly so.
My favourite illustration of this human state is here
Without boring you as we’ve probably all got more important things to worry about – or have we – if you’d like to have a quick financial health check and get your finances in order and calm your angst just get in touch. We’d be delighted to work with you to get a personal financial plan in place that you’re happy with which meets what you want out of life; indeed as we say it would be a privilege. None of us knows what the next ten years will bring so perhaps it is wise to remove part of the ambiguity?
All the best
